The Carroll County Arts Council is looking for innovative artists, engineers, designers and anyone with a "sweet" sense of humor to enter the 7th Annual PEEPshow to be held at the Carroll Arts Center April 11 through April 21. Registration opened to the public on Feb. 1.
The PEEPshow is a wonderfully wacky display of art inspired by the lovable, unnaturally colored marshmallow critters and shapes that invade store shelves before almost every holiday. The Arts Council will accept dioramas, sculpture, and mosaics as long as they include Peeps ® as the medium or subject matter. They will also accept entries utilizing photography, stop-action film making, computer-generated art, drawings or paintings that feature Peeps as the primary subject matter. Last year more than 19,000 Peeps were used in the 190 entries.
"We also are very grateful for the talented decorators that enter this event as it has helped it to become an important fundraiser for the Council when visitors purchase vote chips for their favorite entries. It's a really painless way of supporting the arts," said Executive Director Sandy Oxx.
A variety of artistic prizes will be awarded and the public will vote on its favorites throughout the event. Photos of previous year's entries can be viewed on the Arts Council's website. Last year's grand prize winner was "The Statue of Peeperty," by Sydney Blacksten with 3,746 votes.
Decorators must pre-register and applications are due March 26. However, if 150 entries are received earlier, the Arts Council reserves the right to stop accepting applications at any time. There is an entry fee of $10 and only one entry per household, business, club or school will be accepted.
Participants may register on line at http://www.CarrollCountyArtsCouncil.org. Completed Peep creations must be delivered the week before the show. Guidelines and application form can also be picked up at the Carroll Arts Center during regular business hours. For more information, call 410-848-7272.
