Westminster quarterback Deryk Kern wasn't the only football player to etch his name into various record books this past season.
His trio of wide receivers took over first, third and fourth in terms of single-season receiving yards. Leading the way was senior Garrett Bean. His five touchdown receptions against Linganore tied the state record and set MVAL and county marks.
Hauling in 58 passes for 1,055 yards - just one of three to pass the 1,000-yard mark in a season - Bean broke the county record that was held by former Owl Ryan Payne. During the 2005 campaign, Payne registered 1,041 yards.
With 2,135 yards receiving over a three-year varsity career, Bean established a school and county record total.
Bean's reception total was good enough for second all-time in Carroll, just one catch away from tying former Century wideout Brandon Soderstrom, who snared 59 passes in 2010.
Darius Clifton snagged 52 passes (tied for fourth best in a season) for 1,026 yards, which represents the third-best total in county history.
Bradley Metcalf caught 19 touchdowns along with Bean to set a county record. Metcalf fell just 18 yards short of 1,000, but his total is good enough for fourth in county history.
Owls kicker Justin Cohen converted 66 extra points, most in school and county history.
The Owls scored the most points ever for a team with 583, but fell one short of the regular season record set by the 2005 Owls - a team that lost in the state final.
Westminster wasn't the only school that had players work their way into the county annals. Century's Tyrice Rock darted into third all-time with 1,672 rushing yards, setting a Century record.
Despite not topping Brad Stonesifer's record for total points in a season, Rock scored 28 touchdowns - 26 on the ground - for an impressive total of 170 points.
Manchester Valley senior quarterback Dom Frank became the first player in the modern era to pass and rush for 1,000 yards in the same season. Completing 104 of 204 passes, Frank racked up 1,626 yards through the air and 19 touchdowns.
When the senior took to the ground, he averaged 5.4 yards per carry and finished the season with 1,232 yards on a county-leading 228 attempts - becoming the first Maverick to pass the 1,000-yard mark. Although he missed a game early in the season, he still managed to score 14 touchdowns on the ground.
Joining Frank, fellow quarterback Wes Cook of Winters Mill, passed the 1,000-yard rushing mark on 183 carries. Averaging 5.6 yards per carry, the senior found the end zone 13 times.
Four Carroll ballcarriers passed the 1,000-yard mark this season - the previous record for a season was three - with North Carroll senior Dan Gebhart being the final one passing the milestone with 1,223 yards.
Kern notched a state record 63 passing touchdowns, which also set county and Monocacy Valley Athletic League records. He also passed for 3,890 yards - a county and MVAL single-season record - which fell just 23 yards short of tying the state record.
As a team, the Owls set a state record for passing with 4,049.
