James Madison University's nationally recognized marching band, the Marching Royal Dukes, began its season with 485 members, the largest in its history. Among them are Alexandra Adamson and Thomas Martin, both of Marriottsville.
Adamson, a sophomore majoring in music, plays in the percussion-front ensemble section.
Martin, a freshman majoring in kinesiology, plays in the sax-alto section.
On tap for the band this season are performances at Montpelier, the estate of James Madison, and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
