Football: Carroll Cannons set for title game

The Carroll Cannons semipro football team is one win away from capping an undefeated season with a league championship.

Carroll (9-0) faces off against the Virginia Chargers (8-1) Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Atlantic Football Association title game at Washington High School in Charles Town, W.Va.

The Cannons are trying to knock off the Chargers, the AFA's reigning champions, for a second time this season. Carroll went on the road and beat Virginia 30-20 on April 14.

Carroll and Virginia were the top two seeds in the AFA playoffs and each team received a first-round bye. The Cannons beat the Maryland Phantom 30-18 in the semifinals while the Chargers knocked off the Maryland Bulls 25-14.

Carroll, coached by Mike Kraus, is currently sixth in the country for winter/spring teams according to the Semipro BCS National Rankings, the official rankings system for adult amateur football.
