Laurin David Houseknecht, 84, of Taneytown, died Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Lorien of Taneytown.
Born Dec. 27, 1928, in Conyngham, Pa., he was the son of the late Allen and Mabel Beishline Houseknecht. He was the husband of Visa Houseknecht, his wife of 21 years; and of the late Audrey Houseknecht and the late Joan Houseknecht.
He spent most of his life as a tractor-trailer driver and worked for Mountain Side Transport. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Owings Mills for 40 years and was a member of Messiah Methodist Church in Taneytown. He was also a past member of the Elks and the Teamsters Trucking Union.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons and daughter-in-law David and Betty Houseknecht, of Reisterstown, and George Houseknecht, of Baltimore; daughters Lauren J. Houseknecht and companion Randy Sterner, of Red Lion, Pa., and Blanca Tapakuasco and husband Samuel, of Baltimore; stepson Timothy McCoig and companion Janet Waters, of Owings Mills; sister and brother-in-law Alma Jane and Andy Van Horn, of Wapwallopen, Pa.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 3 p.m. Monday at Pritts Funeral Home & Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, with the Rev. Lou Piel officiating. Interment will be private.
