Attention all tea party members: One of the major political parties might nominate a candidate for president who was not born in America. Worse, his father was not an American citizen at the time of this candidate's birth and indeed fought for Fidel Castro in the land of his own birth, Cuba.
This same father did not even become a U.S. citizen until 2005. Are tea partiers going to forgive this candidate his foreign birth to a foreign father who fought for Castro? Haven't they always held that the nationality of a person follows the nationality of his father? Isn't that candidate therefore an illegal alien, and Hispanic to boot?
But relax, the candidate is one of them. He is Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, of Texas. His father renounced Fidel Castro soon after the communists took over Cuba. Cruz was born of an American mother in Canada. His mother gives him the right to call himself an American citizen.
But what about the candidate born of an American mother in the state of Hawaii? His father was born in Kenya. His American birth is attested to by the state of Hawaii, by his own aunt, by contemporaneous birth announcements in two Honolulu newspapers and by a former member of the House of Representatives who was a family friend.
I know, this fellow with the funny name who was raised by a single mom and her parents, including a grandfather who fought in World War II, is somehow too foreign for tea party tastes. Besides he is, well, you know, one of "Them," or at least his father was.
To the crime of driving while black, and the other crime in New York City, and in Florida, walking the street while black, we can add the high crime and misdemeanor of being elected president while black. For that offense some have urged his impeachment.
They cannot allege any other high crime or misdemeanor while in office, other than being elected (twice) to the highest office in the land. They apparently feel that the presidency is an office that a white man must hold, not a person of color. And he is likely to be replaced by a woman for the first time in history. What is this country coming to?
So it is time to fight fire with fire. To oppose Hillary Clinton they can run a female candidate of their own, the two-year governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin. She has no problems of foreign birth. She is not Hispanic or Black. And she can be brought up to speed on those pesky little details like which Korean nation is our ally and which is our enemy. Most faithful members of the tea party Republicans would welcome her as the candidate of the Republican party in 2016.
There is only one problem. All faithful members of the Democratic Party would welcome her candidacy also. Clinton needs an unelectable but lively sparring partner to beat up on. And our Republican friends, bless them, will surely pick one.
