MEMA expecting more severe weather

The State Emergency Operations Center is expecting another bout of severe weather this afternoon, and moved to level 2 operations at 10 a.m.

Level 2 indicates several other state agencies -- primarily those in support of transportation, law enforcement and other emergency response agencies -- will be in the EOC to coordinate state assistance to local emergency managers, according to a news release.

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency has been monitoring this weather system since early Wednesday and has conducted several conference calls with the four National Weather Service offices which cover Maryland, various utility providers, local emergency managers and staff from key state agencies, the release states.

The weather system has the potential to produce severe thunderstorms, flash flooding, tornadoes, hail, damaging winds and widespread power outages.
