Hanover Falcons win York Cup

The Hanover Falcons won the 2012 York Cup Recreational Tournament U12 Boys Division. In their first Rec-Level tournament, the Falcons were the only coed team competing in the U12 Boys division, while also including four U10 players on their roster. During their regular YorkUSA Spring season the Falcons had been outscored by their tournament opponents 18-5 but turned things around for the two-day York Cup, going undefeated, while outscoring their four opponents 12-7 to win the U12 Boys Division.

Finksburg's Jordan to compete in Youth Pitch, Hit & Run Championship

Thirteen-year old Ryan Jordan of Finksburg has been selected to advance to the Championship. Competition for the Major League Baseball's Aquafina Youth Pitch, Hit & Run Event at Camden Yards June 23. Jordan participated in a local event and then went on to compete in a Sectional Event, winning both in his age group. Jordan has been pitching since he was five and has played on recreation and junior high school teams. He currently plays for the Winfield Green Team of the 13U Babe Ruth Baseball League.

Gamber Girls are LaxMax Champs

Sixteen girls from Gamber's Junior B team and the 16-0 Midget A team participated in the LaxMax Tournament. Many of the girls had club committments or vacations scheduled but were able to still put a team together. With three 14 year olds on the team the group had to play in the 13/14 division to face older competition. Gamber started their trek with a 16-1 win over Black Dog lacrosse from York. Gamber then took a 4-0 lead before defeating defending division champ Mt Lebanon (Pittsburgh) 10-6. On the second day, Gamber beat Team Warrior 14-2, placing them in the Championship. In the final game, Gamber was never threatened as they raced out to a 9-1 halftime score before winning 15-1. For the tournament, Gamber only gave up 10 goals despite having the girls play all positions and using 'volunteers' in the goal since the main goalies were unavailable. The offense played fast and did a great job sharing the ball as every team member scored at least one goal and the defense drew 7 charges in the 4 games.

WAX Tyker girls take 7-8 Blue Division

The WAX Tyker girls won the LAX MAX tournament for the 7-8 Girls Blue Division winning all five of their games while outscoring their opponents 62-33. WAX defeated Carroll Manor 12-4, Olney Gold 14-4 and Reisterstown 14-8 in the preliminary round. The perfect 3-0 record enabled them to move into the semi-final game against a tough Gamber team. Gamber led 8-6 at halftime, but WAX held them to just one goal in the 2nd half and battled back to finish with a 12-9 victory. WAX then advanced to the championship game against South Carroll, where the score went back and forth throughout the game before WAX held on to win 10-8. Kirby Henneman led the WAX team in scoring with 10 goals, followed by Zoe Urban with 8 goals, Katelyn Heffner with 7 goals, Marleigh Lloyd and Lauren Saltz with 6 goals apiece, and Jordan Dunworth with 5 goals. Draws proved to be a key factor during the tournament with Saltz winning 8 and Sophia Barnes winning 7 for WAX. Alexis Troy, Shelby Beck and Brooke Berrol displayed lightning speed while bringing the ball up the field. Taylor Speigle and Heffner each had several interceptions that were crucial in setting the tone of the games. Defensively, Kelly Shanholtz and Cassidy Knoll played tight on their opponents to prevent any easy passes. The goalies were very aggressive in their play - Bailey Schneeman had 5 saves and Paige Burker had 6 saves, all of which were critical to the team's success.
