Group supports all Owings Mills redevelopment projects

This letter was sent to County Council president Vicki Almond, the council and County Executive Kevin Kamenetz from a Liberty Road community association umbrella group concerning the ongoing debate over redevelopment in Owings Mills.

Editor:

The Combined Communities Advocacy Council of Greater Randallstown (CCACGR) is writing to express our views on the proposed Foundry Row, the Metro Center, and the redevelopment of the Owings Mills Mall. The CCACGR represents the following communities in greater Randallstown with total household numbers of 1,960 homes: Edrich Manor, Fieldstone, Hernwood Heights, Lochearn, Stevenswood, and The Woodlands of Deer Park.

We have had meetings with the key leaders of both the Foundry Row project and the Owings Mills mall redevelopment. We find the plans for both projects consistent with the needs and wants of the Northwest Baltimore County Community. The Metro Center adds the community college, library, plus the "Main Street" Owings Mills retail concept.

The Northwest Baltimore County area has been underserved by quality retailers and restaurants for years. Our residents have to travel to Towson, Columbia, etc., to find the retail stores they want to patronize. We believe all three proposed retail projects will complement one another and will bring a desired town center concept for the Owings Mills area as well. This will become a "destination" for people to come to for their shopping, dining, and entertainment needs. The Northwest County economy will prosper for years with the thousands of additional jobs these projects will bring.

For all of the above reasons, we are supporting all the projects: Foundry Row anchored by Wegmans, the Metro Center, and the redevelopment of the Owings Mills Mall.

Aaron Plymouth

Chairman Combined Communities Advocacy Council of Greater Randallstown
