A tractor-trailer overturned and caught on fire Friday on I-70 near Mount Airy.
The vehicle was traveling westbound on I-70 just east of Md. 27, when the tractor-trailer drifted lanes and drove through the right roadside guardrail, according to a press release from the Maryland State Police.
The vehicle then caught on fire after going through a fence and striking a wood line, the release said.
Around 11:10 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Westminster barrack, Commercial Motor Vehicle Division and Crash Team responded to the call.
It is unknown why the vehicle drifted lanes. The collision closed the westbound lanes for about an hour, the release said.
The driver of the vehicle, Steven Ray McClintock, 41, of Moundsville, W. Va., was able to escape the vehicle but did sustain multiple burns, according to the release.
McClintock was flown on a medevac to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., where he is expected to recover.
