Letter: Accessibility key in Niner campaign

Many people are asking why accessibility is one of my top issues as county commissioner. The reason is simple. It really sucks when you elect someone and you are unable to contact them.

If you are unable to contact your elected official, then it is hard to work on issues that effect our community, such as lower taxes, small business solutions, farming issues, public safety, education, Second Amendment gun rights, etc. Which are all issues I champion.

So I tell citizens to call me on my cell phone at 443-536-1408 to speak with me to discuss the Niner for commissioner campaign. When elected, my cell phone will be printed on my commissioner letterhead and business cards. Everyone will have access to me as their county commissioner.

People having access to me as county commissioner will allow me to ensure the people's voice is heard in Carroll County and on issues that effect Carroll County coming from the state legislature in Annapolis. I will serve as the people's link -- just like Niner Road in Gamber, it links a county road (Deer Park Road) to a state highway (Md. 32).

Additionally, I have knocked on many doors since I have been campaigning, and people are very concerned about taxes. This has been a primary concern of mine. When elected, I want to work to lower/reduce taxes. The economy is tough right now, and its not a time for government to be spending a lot of money. I want to work to keep people's hard earned money in their pockets. This will allow people to pay their bills more easily or be able to take their family out to dinner and a movie on a Friday night at a local restaurant and movie theatre. People spending their money locally will help stimulate and grow the local economy.

Taxes can be lowered/reduced by bringing fiscal responsibility. Fiscal responsibility means having a true balanced budget. If it is a true balanced budget, then there should be no surpluses or deficits. Using tax dollars more efficiently and effectively will help save taxpayers money. Streamlining how the county operates and the services it provides is another.

So let's get on track for "Niner for commissioner." I would like to ask the people for their vote on Election Day.
