Virginia Frances "Nancy" Hamer, 91, of Taneytown, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.
Born July 6, 1922, in Anne Arundel County, she was the daughter of the late Claude C. and Victoria F. Dougherty Felty. She was the wife of James Frank Hamer, her husband of 68 years.
She worked in food services for the Maryland School for the Deaf Columbia Campus in Elkridge for several years. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Taneytown. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are daughters Ellen F. Styers, of Taneytown, and Susan F. Hamer and husband Michael DeWitt, of Lake Charles, La.; a sister, Mary Frances Orem, of Severn; grandchildren Sherrill Williams and husband Larry, Dawn L. Dow and Kimberly Vickers; great-grandchildren Jeremiah L. Carroll and Jordan Byrd; and niece Mary L. "Bootsie" Allum and husband Chuck, of Severn.
She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Robert "Bob" Styers; and siblings Claude C. Jr., George and Richard Felty, and Cecil F. Ashby.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore St., Taneytown.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 44 Frederick St., Taneytown, with Monsignor Martin E. Field as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
