For the Birds: Movin' on up

Another day, another round of roster moves for the Orioles, who got blasted by Minnesota 19-7 on Monday night.

Baltimore promoted LHP Zach Britton, who started Tuesday's game against the Twins. The Orioles also called up RHP Brad Bergesen from Class-AAA Norfolk and sent down RHP Miguel Socolovich to the Tides.

Also, Robert Andino was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left shoulder injury after he went down in Sunday's game against Detroit.

To make room for Bergesen on the 40-man roster, infielder Nick Johnson was to the 60-day DL.

Britton opened the season on the disabled list with a left shoulder impingement (placed on March 26). He was activated and optioned to Norfolk on June 6 and went 4-1 with a 4.15 ERA including seven shutout innings in his most recent start July 12.

Bergesen has gone 4-3 with one save and a 4.03 ERA in 22 games (10 starts) with the Tides this season.

Socolovich made his major-league debut Saturday vs. the Tigers after having his contract selected earlier in the day and pitched to a 9.00 ERA in two appearances with the Orioles.

Andino batted .230 with five home runs and 21 RBIs in 79 games this season.

Johnson was placed on the disabled list with a right wrist injury on June 28.
