Personable, likeable and sharp minded northwest resident Betty Samuels Seidel, celebrated her very special 90th birthday with family, many friends and members of Beth Am Synagogue's seniors group named "Daytimers/Hazak," at Roland Park Place, located at 830 W. 40th Street, 21211.

At this spring meeting, a very large crowd attended to celebrate and spend quality time with the birthday lady on her milestone birthday, plus view and enjoy an interesting travelogue slide show entitled "Israel Old and New" presented by Henry Feller, executive director of Beth Am Synagogue.

Betty conducted this interesting meeting. Feller and wife, Renee have traveled to Israel previously. Recently Feller participated in the Annual Conference of the North American Association of Synagogue Executives, held in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

Seven years ago, Feller presented a travelogue of Israel for Daytimers/Hazak. On this very special day, Betty's birthday, he compared that time with Israel of today. Israel, he said, is the size of New Jersey. Video pictures featured reconstruction of a synagogue, another picture, a settlement with 40,000 residents, two of three entrances the residents here have access to use. There was additional discussion about several other synagogues. Plus there was a picture of an underground bullet factory the British never knew existed.

There were pictures of modern structures in Tel Aviv. Another picture featured the Schechter Institute. Shown were pictures of street markets with many Judaica items. Plus there was a picture of the vineyards in Galilee, another picture featured the Yitzhak Rabin Center, another picture featured the Goldsmith Center, also a unique marzipan collection. Plus, there was a picture of Theodore Hertzl's grave.

Plus the Golan was pictured, another picture featured from desert to snow on the mountains. Yes, from desert to snow! Plus a herb factory was shown. Interesting was a gold and black dome mosque. Another picture showcased a resettlement village, plus a Ramot ranch. There is a restaurant with waiters who are deaf and blind. They are very efficient! A lot of good work is done at this restaurant!

Everyone enjoyed Feller's interesting slide show and current update!

Overwhelmed by the large attendance and many birthday flowers, plants, gifts and cards, including a beautiful large floral arrangement from Terry Snyder, president of Roland Park Place, in conclusion, birthday celebrant Betty Seidel commented, "everyone has been so generous and wonderful, I am going to celebrate my 90th birthday again, next year!"

Also amongst the many birthday revelers in addition to above mentioned, Cantor Ira Greenstein, Elaine Weiss, Ruth Levy, Joyce Schmulowitz, Dolores Purzitsky, Fran Rubenstein, Linda and Jack Lapides, Carol and David Traub with their daughter Barb visiting from California. Plus Debby and Harold Freeman, Rena Kronheim, Lorraine Pugatch, Erma Sigler, Selma Levin, Paula Williams, Mildred Strutt, Shirley and Paul Sachs, J. Wynn Rousuck, Eileen Yoffe, Edith Stark, Sheila Meyers, Mary Miller, Fred Katz, Debbie Potts, Terri and Mike Kane, Barb and Barry Blumberg, Sarajane Greenfeld, Joyce Keating, Hilda Coyne, Mimi Davidoff, Phyllis Gerber, and many more guests too numerable to list.
