Mount St. Mary's senior guards Julian Norfleet and Rashad Whack were named to the All-Northeast Conference second team on Tuesday.
It is the first all-NEC selection for both Norfleet and Whack, who are getting ready for an NEC tournament quarterfinal home game against St. Francis Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
Norfleet has been a four-year starter for the Mount, but is finishing up what has been by far his best season, setting career highs with 17.6 points per game and 5.5 assists per game. Both of those numbers rank fifth in the NEC. He is equally dangerous driving to the basket, spotting up for a 3-pointer or finding open teammates. Norfleet is the second-leading active scorer in the NEC with 1,548 career points.
Whack, who spent two seasons at Mount St. Mary's after transferring from George Mason, is a high volume scorer who led the Mountaineers in 3-pointers but also succeeds in transition.
Whack is sixth in the conference with 17.1 points per game and ranks fifth with 2.5 3-pointers per contest. On the defensive side, he is a harassing wing defender who ranks third in the NEC in steals (1.7). Whack needs just 10 points to reach 1,000 in two years at the Mount.
Karvel Anderson of regular-season NEC champion Robert Morris earned NEC Player of the Year. LIU Brooklyn's Jason Brickman, St. Francis Brooklyn's Jalen Cannon, Bryant's Alex Francis and Fairleigh Dickinson's Sidney Sanders Jr. rounded out the all-NEC first team.
Sanders also won the Most Improved Player award while St. Francis (Pa.) freshman Malik Harman earned Rookie of the Year honors, Wagner's Kenneth Ortiz picked up his third consecutive Defensive Player of the Year award, Robert Morris' Andrew Toole won the Jim Phelan Coach of the Year award.
