Westminster library branch
The Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will offer the following programs this week. Registration is required only where noted. For more information, call 410-386-4488.

Tuesday
Story Pals - Hats: 10 a.m. For ages 2-3. A theme-based story time featuring interactive and age-appropriate stories, songs, fingerplays, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
Read and Play: 11 a.m. For ages Birth-24 Months. A story time featuring lap games, tickles, bounces and rhymes followed by a playgroup for meeting and mingling. With an accompanying adult caregiver.
Medicare in 2014: 2 p.m. For Adults. Join Tina Herrero-Backe from the Bureau of Aging and Disabilities as she discusses how Medicare works. Open Enrollment for Medicare Part D runs from October 15-December 7 so don't miss out on this informative presentation. Participants will also hear about the NEW 2014 prescription drug plans and discover if they are in the most affordable drug plan for their needs. Herrero-Backe will also review Medicare Savings Programs and free preventive services offered by Medicare.
Evening Story Time - Hats: 7 p.m. For All Ages. End your day in a special way. This story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Let's Move Child Care: 6:30 p.m. For Adults. Register for this event today. Let's Move Child Care is a nutrition and physical activity program to help child care providers encourage healthy habits with young children. This two-hour sneak preview, hosted by the University of Maryland Extension, will go over the basics of the program. Child care providers will receive two MSDE-approved CEUs. Information for a full 6 hour class, which offers 6 CEUs, will also be shared. Instructors - Virginia Brown and Terry Serio. All attendees need to register.

Thursday

Year-Round Family Story Time - Hats: 1 p.m. For All Ages. An open invitation. This weekly story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
The Joy of Music & Movement: 3:30 p.m. For ages Birth-5. Please join us for this fun-filled music and movement program for children birth through age five and caregivers. Miss Amy will blend the joy of music and the pleasure of movement to help young children grow while having a blast. Parents and caregivers will learn simple activities to continue the fun at home. Ghost Walk: 6:30 p.m. For ages 10-Adults. Register for this event today. Join us for a ghost presentation and evening stroll through Westminster to visit our local ghosts and legends. The walk is approximately 1.5 miles. Children under age 14 must be accompanied by an adult. A Celebrating America program. All attendees need to register.

Friday
Baby and Kids Yoga: 2 p.m. For ages Birth-5. Babies and small children are natural yogis and yoginis (ever heard of happy baby pose)? With children as young as 4 weeks old, caregivers can work with their little ones to practice developmentally appropriate yoga poses. Don't worry if your little one is always on the go, the instructor works with the energy of the children and tailors the class accordingly. Moves stimulate the brain, encourage proper alignment, help with digestion and sleep patterns, teach calming breath work, encourage early critical thinking skills, and foster the love of physical fitness at a young age. All children should attend with an adult caregiver and dress ready to stretch and move.

Kids Can Cook: 10 a.m. For ages 6-11. Be the master chef as we prepare some no-bake recipes and learn about the way different cultures eat.
Read with a Furry Friend: 10 a.m. For ages 4-17. Register for this event today. Come ready to read to a Reading Education Assistance Dog provided by KPETS, a pet therapy service organization. Improve your reading skills by sharing a story with a dog who can't wait to hear you read. Only kids need to register.
READ Local with Charles Belfoure: 2 p.m. For Adults. Charles Belfoure is a former professor at Goucher College, a freelance writer for the Baltimore Sun and New York Times, and an architect. The author will be discussing his first novel, The Paris Architect, which is being released in October. READ Local features a published author from the Carroll County community each month to meet and greet readers. Authors may have books available for purchase and signing.

Hidden Treasures, Lost...Then Found - Video Presentation, Meet the Author, and Book Signing: 7 p.m. For Adults. Join local author Mary Jane Buettner as she uncovers hidden treasure in Carroll County. Saint John Catholic Church, a Gothic masterpiece, was once the tallest Carroll County landmark on Main Street in Westminster. The priceless artifacts of the church, including Franz Mayer stained glass windows, marble statuary, and 14 tableaus, designed with horsehair and wood paste, disappeared. Journey with Mary Jane Buettner as she shares her book, A Key to Love, and how she uncovered hidden treasure-once lost, then found. Books will be available for purchase and signing. A portion of the profit from the sale of A Key to Love will be donated to local charities.
