Westminster library branch
The Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will offer the following programs this week. Registration is required only where noted. For more information, call 410-386-4488.

Tuesday
Story Pals - Clothes: 10 a.m. For ages 2-3. A theme-based story time featuring interactive and age-appropriate stories, songs, fingerplays, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.
Read and Play: 11 a.m. For ages Birth-24 Months. A story time featuring lap games, tickles, bounces and rhymes followed by a playgroup for meeting and mingling. With an accompanying adult caregiver.
Evening Story Time - Clothes: 7 p.m. For All Ages. End your day in a special way. This story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Chili Rose's Monster Movie Madness - Them: 7 p.m. For All Ages. Chili Rose (our super-cool tarantula) presents this 1954 classic big bug movie. Mutated ants-12 feet long and capable of lifting tons-become giant problems for the city of Los Angeles. This movie is unrated. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Refreshments will be served.

You and Health Insurance - Making a Smart Choice: 6:30 p.m. For Adults. Register for this event today. This 2-hour program helps you explore the information you need to make the best health insurance decision for you and your family. Dr. Virginia Brown of the University of Maryland-Extension will present and review their tested workbook designed to help you feel more confident in making your selection. All attendees need to register.

Read with a Furry Friend: 10 a.m. For ages 4-17. Register for this event today.Come ready to read to a Reading Education Assistance Dog provided by KPETS, a pet therapy service organization. Improve your reading skills by sharing a story with a dog who can't wait to hear you read. Only kids need to register.

Sunday
Celebrate America - Road to Roots/Americana Music - Jammin' the Bluegrass: 2 p.m. For All Ages. The American Music Association defines Americana music as contemporary music that incorporates elements of various American roots music styles, including country, roots-rock, folk, bluegrass, R&B and blues, resulting in a distinctive roots-oriented sound that lives in a world apart from the pure forms of the genres upon which it may draw. Perhaps the best way to learn what defines Americana music is to listen to it, so join us in September for Americana concerts in the Mary Lou Dewey Sculpture Park. If it rains, the concert will be inside. Children 3 and under must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. A Celebrating America program. This program is sponsored in part by a Community Arts Development Grant from the Carroll County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council. Parents - What Drugs Are Carroll County Kids Using?: 7 p.m. For Adults. Register for this event today. Linda Auerback, Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator for Carroll County, will discuss the alarming use and availability of drugs and alcohol among Carroll County youth, including synthetic drugs such as bath salts and spice. She will provide an update on overdose deaths and use of heroin and prescription drugs in our community. Current trends will also be reviewed.
