James D. Flater, 54, formerly of Westminster

James David Flater, 54, of Randallstown, formerly of Westminster, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at Northwest Hospital Center Seasons Hospice in Randallstown.

Born June 11, 1959, in Hanover, Pa., he was the son of the late John Arnold and Geneva Waltz Flater.

He was a 1978 graduate of the Maryland School for the Deaf. He worked with Change Inc. in Westminster and recently with Emerge Greenhouses of Hunt Valley.

He enjoyed movies and television, especially Disney; and going to the beach.

Surviving are a brother, John Flater, of Baltimore; a sister, Elizabeth Ness, of Hebron; brothers-in-law Larry Hugg, of Westminster, and Glenn Heisey, of Baltimore; niece Amanda Hugg and husband Sourabh Verma; a nephew, Matthew Hugg; and a great-nephew, Devon Verma.

He was predeceased by a sister, Frances Waltz; and his caregiver, Geneva "Chris" Hugg, who died in December 2013.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. until the time the memorial service, 8 p.m. Wednesday at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 91 Willis St., Westminster. Private interment will be held in Deer Park United Methodist Cemetery at a later date.
