Dorothy E. Murphy, 87, of Manchester

Dorothy Elizabeth Murphy, 87, of Manchester, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House in Westminster.

She was born June 17, 1926, in Baltimore. Twice married, she was the wife of the late Bertram Paige Powell II, and the late Kenneth A. Murphy Sr.

Prior to retirement, she had worked as a seamstress. She enjoyed gardening especially roses, jigsaw puzzles, drawing and music. She enjoyed time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending sporting and other special events.

Back in the day, she frequented car, motorcycle and horse racing events. She was a woman ahead of her time as she had a 1940 Ford convertible with a rumble seat as soon as she could drive, and she learned to drive a Harley motorcycle.

Surviving are daughters Terri Lynn Murphy and Tammy Marie Gloss, both of Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Aletha Powell, of Florida; grandchildren Jaime Knisely, Justin Gloss, Sarah Gloss, Kim Jacobs Ferguson, Kelly Powell Warfel and Stan Jacobs; and great-grandchildren Zachary Warfel, Derek Jacobs, Morgan Jacobs George, Sierra Knisely, Malaya Knisely Locklear, Holly Knisely Locklear, Arianna Knisely and Isabella Gloss Short.

She was predeceased by sons Bertram P. Powell III and Kenny Murphy Jr.; and a daughter, Synthia A. Knisely.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Eline Funeral Home, 934 S. Main St., Hampstead.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Michael Roach officiating. Interment will be in Glen Haven Memorial Park in Glen Burnie.
