Westminster library branch

The Westminster branch of the Carroll County Public Library, 50 E. Main St., Westminster, will offer the following programs this week. Registration is required only where noted. For more information, call 410-386-4488.

Tuesday

Story Pals-Playground: 10 a.m. For ages 2-3. A theme-based story time featuring interactive and age-appropriate stories, songs, finger plays, and activities. With an accompanying caregiver.

Read and Play: 11 a.m. For ages birth-24 months. A story time featuring lap games, tickles, bounces and rhymes followed by a playgroup for meeting and mingling. With an accompanying adult caregiver.

Evening Story Time-Playground: 7 p.m. For all ages. End your day in a special way. This story time, open to all ages, introduces stories through books, songs, and activities. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Help for the First-Time Home Buyer: 7 p.m. For adults. Are you considering buying a home? Are you feeling overwhelmed by the whole process? Take your first step here by gathering the tools you'll need to succeed at the most expensive purchase you'll probably make in your entire life. Loan officer Tabatha Knoyer will cover things you need to know when dealing with a realtor, a HUD consultant/home inspector, a title company, and a mortgage lender.

Friday

Babies and Bagels: 10 a.m. For ages birth-3. Join us for breakfast. Come in for an informal playgroup for babies, toddlers, and their caregivers. Enjoy bagels, orange juice, and adult conversation while the babies play. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. Refreshments will be served.

Lunchtime Concerts in the Park-Band TBA: Noon. For all ages. What better way to enjoy lunchtime than by listening to great music in the park. Brown bag it or grab a tasty treat in town and enjoy a terrific summer concert. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Saturday

Happiness, Health, and Hula Hoops: 10 a.m. For ages 6-17. Register for this event today. Learn how to hula hoop for fun and fitness. Lauren Alford, an expert hooper, will teach hula hoop skills from basic to advanced. Bring your own hoop if you like. Others will be provided. All attendees need to register.

Sunday

Inch by Inch, Row by Row, We're Gonna Make This Garden Grow: 2 p.m. For all ages. Westminster Branch Library has a garden plot in the Westminster Community Garden, located at East Middle School/Skate Park Gardens. And because hands-on gardening is the perfect way for families to get outside and get their hands dirty, among other things, we'd like your family to join us in the garden. There will be lots of garden-related activities throughout the growing season, and each week's activity will be guided by library staff. Work clothes are recommended. Weather permitting, we will meet at the library and walk to the garden. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. A Celebrating America program.

Wellness Wednesday: 6:30 p.m. For adults. Register for this event today. Feeling stressed? Need some relaxation? Come get a free chair massage at the library. Dan Cunningham, a licensed massage therapist from Carroll County Massage, will be here discussing the health benefits of massage and giving 15 minute chair massages in our small meeting room. Once you have registered for the program we will call or email you to set up your appointment time.

Chincoteague Ponies with Author Lois Szymanski: 11 a.m. For ages 7-adults. Register for this event today. Join author Lois Szymanski as she shares some stories about Chincoteague ponies and how they survive today. Her talk will include information about the ponies, who are the focus of her Chincoteague pony trading cards, the foals that inspired her picture book Wild Colt, and the amazing survival of the stallion who is the topic of her chapter book The True Story of Miracle Man. After the talk, visitors will be able to meet a real Chincoteague pony and ask questions of the pony's owner. This will be a great experience for the entire family. All attendees need to register.

Saturday

PAWS to Read: 2 p.m. For ages 6-17. Register for this event today. Come to the library and read a story to a book-loving dog. Research shows that children enjoy improving their reading skills by practice reading to animals. Registration preferred, but walk-ins welcome. Only kids need to register.

Sidewalk Chalk Spectacular: 9:30 a.m. For all ages. Add your own creative touch to the Finksburg Branch Library. Join us Mondays this summer to give our walkways some flare and fun. Program is weather permitting. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Party: 10 a.m. For all ages. Help kick off Summer Reading by joining our kick-off party featuring fun activities, face painting, a special visitor, and much more. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Summer Reading Kick-Off Sing-a-long: 12:30 p.m. For all ages. Join us for a sing-a-long to celebrate the kick-off of our summer fun. It will be a foot tappin', fun way to start the summer off with a bang. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Little Red Hen Puppet Show: 7 p.m. For ages 3-adults. Register for this event today. Heat up the stove and let's get cooking with the Little Red Hen Puppet Show. Can anyone lend a hoof, claw, or paw to our kitchen chemistry experiment? In this funny tale of friendship, see if these best-meaning friends can make a pizza or simply make a mess. Children age 3 must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. All attendees need to register.
