Those who made an annual income of less than $52,000 last year qualify for free tax preparation that starts Jan. 21 and runs through April 15 through the Human Services Programs of Carroll County.
Last year, volunteer tax preparers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program completed 451 tax returns and returned more than $956,000, according to an HSP flyer. The nonprofit is looking for more volunteers to help out with the program. A free IRS training and certification will be provided, and accounting or prior tax experience is not necessary.
The agency is looking for volunteers immediately, as the program begins Jan. 21, but it will still accept volunteers afterward as well, according to Jennifer Graybill, HSP opportunity WORKS program manager. Those interested can contact Kim Brumbaugh, HSP VITA site coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 410-848-2999, ext. 3041.
