Hafeez Syed, M.D., cardiology, was selected as Carroll Hospital Center's November Physician of the Month. Affiliated with the hospital for 25 years, Dr. Syed was nominated for his commitment to patient care when he came to the hospital, during a time he was not scheduled to work, in order to perform a cardiac catheterization on a patient to determine if her heart was suitable for organ donation.
"Dr. Syed's actions this particular evening are a prime example of one's commitment to his or her profession," Mark Olszyk, M.D., vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Carroll Hospital Center, said. "He went above and beyond his normal duties to ensure the person who would potentially receive this patient's heart would receive a healthy heart quickly to save his or her life."
Each month, Carroll Hospital Center recognizes the extraordinary patient care achievements of physicians, as well as physician assistants, nurse practitioners and certified nurse anesthetists, with a program called Physician WOW Service Awards. From those who are nominated to receive Physician WOW Service Awards each month, one Physician of the Month is chosen. And, from a year's worth of Physician of the Month winners, one Physician of the Year is selected.
Community members and hospital associates are encouraged to nominate a medical professional who has demonstrated a special dedication and devotion to patients in a variety of ways.
