Elvis is coming! Elvis is coming!
Actually, the big news is that the Sykesville-Freedom District fire company is getting ready to open its newly rebuilt fire hall and social building. A Tribute to Elvis on Feb. 2 just happens to be the first event in the showplace banquet hall.
Deputy Chief Brett Pearce said, "I'm excited for the public to see it. It doesn't even look like a fire hall."
The new facility features two large community meeting rooms with a movable wall to create the full-size banquet space. Each side can hold about 250 people, so the building can host two large events at once, or just one very large event.
The new space has all modern electronics and a fully professional kitchen, as well.
"This gives people a large banquet hall in the heart of our area. People don't have to leave Sykesville for large events now," Pearce said.
The inaugural event, scheduled for 7 to 11 p.m., will feature the talents of Mike Hoover in the Tribute to Elvis. "He tours all over Europe and Japan," Pearce said.
