'Stealing a Nation' to be screened Thursday at McDaniel

McDaniel College will screen "Stealing a Nation" at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, as part of the World Wise Documentary Film Series. The 2004 Granada Television documentary will be shown in the Decker Auditorium in Lewis Hall of Science, 2 College Hill, McDaniel College, Westminster.

The film portrays the plight of the people of the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, whose indigenous population was brutally expelled in the 1960s and 1970s to make way for the American military base used as a launch pad for the invasions in Afghanistan and Iraq. David Vine, associate professor of anthropology at American University and author of "Island of Shame: The Secret History of the U.S. Military Base on Diego Garcia," will lead a post-screening discussion.

The event is organized by McDaniel's Global Initiatives. For more information, call 410-857-3376.
