On Saturday, June 14, the third Carroll County Pet Expo will take place at the Shipley Arena in Westminster from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This family-friendly event offers visitors opportunities to interact with pet professionals such as veterinarians, animal behaviorists, groomers, trainers and businesses that provide products and services to pets and their owners. In addition, representatives from animal-related organizations such as rescues, shelters, therapy and service dog groups, and dog and cat clubs will be sharing educational information.
A variety of demonstrations and educational seminars has been scheduled that will take place throughout the day. Some of the demonstrations will include dog activities such as disc dog, agility, rally obedience, carting and advanced level dog tricks. The seminars will cover topics like dog safety for kids, cat health and behavior issues, and the variety of services that therapy dogs can provide.
The American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizenship Test will be offered again along with the recently developed Advanced Level CGC Test. The tests assess how dogs react to everyday real-life situations and are open to all dogs (purebreds and mixed breeds) who exhibit good manners. The dogs must not show signs of aggression or extreme shyness and demonstrate basic obedience skills. For a thorough description of these tests, please visit: http://www.akc.org/events/cgc. Testing is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m. and the fee is $10. Pre-registration is required by emailing Marta Coursey at marta@myk9buddy.net.
Pet photos will be taken from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. by Sit Stay Style for a fee.
At 10 a.m. the Humane Society of Carroll County will be conducting a ribbon-cutting ceremony to introduce its Mobile Adoption Trailer. Noelle Floreen, a staunch supporter of the Humane Society, funded its construction. The utilization of a mobile adoption trailer is a new initiative being taken by the Humane Society to make the adoption of cats and other animals more accessible to the public. Pet adoption events will be publicized and the trailer (staffed by volunteers) will be brought to different locations in Carroll County. Please stop by and tour the Mobile Adoption Trailer during your visit to the Pet Expo.
The Pet Expo welcomes well-behaved leashed dogs, however there are rules and regulations that owners must review and sign when they arrive at the entrance. These include:
