Whether you are heading to a big city or staying close to home in Carroll County this New Year's Eve, there's a celebration out there for you - no matter your age, budget or partying preferences.
Some bars in Carroll are ringing in a new year with noisemakers, a champagne toast at midnight and extended hours, if there is enough demand.
The Eldersburg nonprofit Caring Communities is holding its sixth-annual Charm City Countdown New Year's Eve party at the Lord Baltimore Hotel in Baltimore. This year, the event will be themed "The Great Gatsby" and feature open bars, full dinner buffets and a midnight balloon drop.
Tickets to that event sell out quickly, with only a couple dozen left as of Friday, according to Jay Freedman, president of the Board of Directors for Caring Communities. Having a theme is a new concept for the New Year's Eve celebration.
The event will feature a New York nightclub, a karaoke theater, a chill lounge and a casino with a cash money wheel, Freedman said.
"It's going to be the most fun of any event in Baltimore and it helps a local, Carroll County charity," he said.
Supporting the nonprofit will help the disabilities community in the entire state and region, Freedman said.
"We run the largest expo for people with disabilities in the region," he said.
Children can even join in on the New Year's Eve festivities before their bedtimes with events during the day at the Maryland Science Center, Port Discovery and Carroll libraries.
A couple other events will take people sailing around the Inner Harbor to ring in the New Year.
