Library Schedule (July 11-17)

The Eldersburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library, 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, will offer the following programs this week. Registration is required only where noted. For more information, call 410-386-4488.

Wednesday

Drop-In Crafts: 3-4 p.m. For all ages. Drop in and make some cool crafts. You never know what surprises there may be. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Knit Wits: 7 p.m. For ages 11-adults. Beginners, bring a light-colored worsted-weight yarn and size 8 needles to the class. If you know how to knit, come and bring your project.

Thursday

Origami Fun: 1 p.m. For ages 10-17. Join origami expert Allison Campbell and get creative with this Japanese art form. With paper and imagination, learn to create intricate works of art. All materials will be provided. Registration began June 28.

Service-learning Hours - KidWorks: 5:30 p.m. For ages 12-17. KidWorks meets twice a month. At the first meeting, an hour is devoted to planning a story time for younger kids. At the second meeting, on July 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m., the story time will be presented. You must come to both meetings to earn three service-learning hours.

Friday

Library Lock-In - Fright Night Zombie Walk: 6:30-9:30 p.m. For ages 12-17. Join the library after hours on Friday the 13th as attendees become part of the living dead. Makeup will be provided so you can put your best face on while practicing your zombie walk. The "Thriller" dance scene will be re-created, and attendees will play zombie tag and much more. Refreshments will be served. Spaces are limited and permission slips are required.

Little Hands Signing - Safety Signs: 9:45 a.m. For ages birth-24 months. Experience the magic of American Sign Language through age-appropriate stories, songs, activities and games, along with tips and tricks for caregivers on using signs in everyday activities. Presenter Kathy MacMillan is a certified member of the Sign2Me Presenters' Network. With an accompanying adult caregiver. Siblings welcome.

Free Spirit Book Club - "Days of Gold" by Jude Deveraux: 2 p.m. For adults. Join in a discussion about the chosen book.

Monday

Amazing Pillow Cases: 1 p.m. For ages 8-12. Come to the library to decorate your own pillow case. Use unique tie-dye techniques and other materials to create your own pillow case masterpiece. All materials will be provided. Registration began July 2.

Kids Craft Night: 6:30 p.m. For all ages. Join in relaxed seasonal craft-making. Children 3 and younger must be accompanied by an adult caregiver.

Tuesday

Getting Graphic - Drawing Comics and Manga: 1:30 p.m. For ages 11-17. A beginner's course in drawing for comic books, graphic novels and manga. Learn and practice some basic tips and techniques that will get you started drawing your own stories. Supplies will be provided, so come prepared to draw.

Teen Volunteer Tuesday: 6 p.m. For ages 12-17. Need service hours? Help the library, which is looking for young adults who would like to earn service hours. Help the library prepare crafts for story time, pull library materials from the shelves, and do other special projects.
