NAVY WOMEN'S BASKETBALL:
Stefanie Pemper of Navy and Jackie Carson of Furman University were announced as court coaches for the 2014 USA Basketball Women's Under-18 National Team Trials, which will take place May 23-27 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Pemper and Carson will assist the USA Women's U18 National Team coaching staff in leading drills, skills sessions and scrimmages. The USA U18 National Team will be led Dawn Staley (University of South Carolina), with assistant coaches Kim Barnes Arico (University of Michigan) and Jeff Walz (University of Louisville). Approximately 35 players are expected to attend trials, and players eligible for this competition must have been born on or after Jan. 1, 1996.
Pemper, who has been head coach for the Navy women's basketball team for six seasons, led her 2013-14 squad to a 24-8 record which was a school-record for wins, and a WNIT appearance, and she was named the 2014 Patriot League Coach of the Year.
At the conclusion of trials on May 26, the 12-member roster for the 2014 USA Women's U18 National Team will be selected by the USA Junior National Team Committee.
The team will return to Colorado Springs at the end of July to train in advance of the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 Championship, which will be played Aug. 6-10 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
LOYOLA MEN'S LACROSSE:
Brian Schultz scored a career-high six goals on just 10 shots, helping No. 1-ranked Loyola University Maryland defeat Bucknell University, 13-6, in the teams' final Patriot League regular-season game.
Schultz, who had a previous best of four goals earlier this season against Lafayette College, recorded a hat trick in the game's first 25-plus minutes, helping Loyola take a 5-1 halftime lead.
Jack Runkel made 14 saves in goal for the Greyhounds (12-1 overall, 8-0 Patriot League), and Loyola forced 18 Bucknell (7-7, 4-4) turnovers. The Greyhounds caused 13 of the turnovers, led by a career-high five by Pat Laconi. Schultz and Jason Crane (Chesapeake) each had two for Loyola. Joe Fletcher led all players in the game with seven ground balls. Justin Ward (Old Mill) had a goal and three assists for Loyola.
SHEPHERD WOMEN'S LACROSSE:
Junior attacker Georgia Karr scored six goals and senior midfielder Christina Ferrara added five to lead Shepherd University to a 22-13 win over Shorter University. Sophomore attacker Hunter Morris (Severn) added four goals and an assist.
LIMESTONE WOMEN'S LACROSSE:
Jaylen Schulte (South River) had two goals and two assists as No. 3 Limestone (15-0, 6-0 CC) earned an 18-8 victory over Saint Leo (8-7.
LEBANON VALLEY WOMEN'S LACROSSE:
Lebanon Valley dominated from start to finish on Senior Night, defeating Elizabethtown, 18-4. Senior Mel Modrick shined offensively, notching five goals and an assist.
W&L WOMEN'S LACROSSE:
No. 11 Washington and Lee improved to 9-0 in ODAC action with a 20-0 victory over Hollins.
CENTENARY MEN'S LACROSSE:
Marywood exploded for 11 goals during the second half and earned a 15-7 victory over Centenary College.
Sophomore Renay Aubel hit a three-home run in the bottom of the fifth inning that rallied Frostburg State past Mary Washington, 3-2.
GEORGETOWN WOMEN'S LACROSSE:
The Hoyas put together a big 13-2 victory over Villanova to improve to 7-7.
The No. 1 Sea Gulls opened play in the Capital Athletic Conference tournament, picking up a 10-3 victory against third-seeded Frostburg.
The Navy at Air Force football game, scheduled for October 4, will be televised by CBS Sports Network and kick at 3:30 p.m. (EST).
