The Hubert V. Simmons Negro Leagues Baseball Museum of Maryland
, 3800 Patterson Avenue in Baltimore, is hosting a free NLB Summer Camp for kids ages 8-12, Aug. 13-17 at the museum in the lower level of the Lochearn Presbyterian Church from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Monday-Friday. Kids will learn about the Negro Leagues and the basics of the game. They will go on two field trips and meet Negro League baseball players. Snacks and beverages will be provided. "Sibling loss," a 90-minute workshop Wednesday Aug. 22 from 6:30-8 p.m. This workshop will explore the unique feelings raised by losing a sibling.
"Coping with the loss of a parent," a grief workshop Tuesday, Aug. 28 from 6:30-8 p.m. This workshop will discuss what our parents represent for us, and how losing a parent differs from other losses.
The Baltimore County African American Cultural Festival
in celebration of its 16th annual festival, will conduct a bus tour through the Underground Railroad that operated in the County Saturday, July 28. This bus tour is free and will include stops at various Underground Railroad locations, a slave church, the site where Bethel AME Church in Baltimore hopes to build their new church, a stop at the Emmart-Pierpont Safehouse on Rolling Road, a stop at Emmart United Methodist Church where riders will have a free luncheon and learn the history of the church, and others locations. The tour will begin from the rear parking lot of Union Bethel AME Church, 8815 Church Lane in Randallstown at 10 a.m. and end at about 2:30 p.m. The tour guide will be Louis S. Diggs, author and historian, and/ or Lenwood Johnson, a historian and knowledgeable person on African American life and communities in Baltimore County.
