Capping off an impressive season, Westminster Owls senior quarterback Deryk Kern was named first-team all-state for big schools on Thursday.

Throwing a state record 63 touchdown passes, Kern is joined by fellow senior wide receiver Garrett Bean who caught 19 of them. Bean tied the state record for touchdown catches in a game with five against Linganore in Week 2.

Also against the Lancers, Kern threw for a state record tying seven touchdowns, a feat he later repeated in the season against Leonardtown. In addition to Bean, the Owls' other two top receivers were also recognized.

Bradley Metcalf was named to the second-team and Darius Clifton received honorable mention. Dan Johnson made second-team as a linebacker, giving Westminster five players total receiving honors.

Manchester Valley quarterback Dom Frank was named to the second team for small schools and was joined by Century offensive lineman Don Knox. Liberty punter A.J. Robbins was named to the second team as well.

The Mavericks were right behind Westminster with four players being recognized. Zach Heron (tight end), Jakub Hnizda (defensive line) and Gavin Bussard (linebacker) all received honorable mention nods.

Joining Knox, Century running back Tyrice Rock was named to the third team and Ryder Cavey (defensive line) was also.

Liberty's Bobby Summersgill (wide receiver) and Michael Reigner (linebacker) were honorable mentions and so was South Carroll's duo of Dylan McDermott (running back) and Blake Ford (defensive line).

Rounding out the list of the 20 Carroll football players represented was a trio of Winters Mill players. Wes Cook (defensive back), Sebastian Cuenca (kicker) and Jake Utz (linebacker) were all honorable mention.
