During the course of the last two weeks on the Road to WrestleMania, I'll be taking a look at each match on the card individually in order to fully explain the background of the storyline, a breakdown on why each Superstar could and should win, and the bottom line -- my prediction on the result of the match and the immediate aftermath, plus any other random thoughts. Today, it's the Intercontinental Championship match between the champ Cody Rhodes and challenger the Big Show.

Background

Prior to the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, Cody Rhodes questioned the Big Show -- both of whom were participants in the Smackdown chamber match -- why he would even want to go to WrestleMania, since he has such a poor record there (3-8). During the chamber match itself, Rhodes eliminated the giant with a roll-up. In subsequent weeks, Rhodes has taunted Big Show by showing clips of his most embarrassing WrestleMania moments, including loses to sumo wrestler Akebono and boxer Floyd Mayweather. As a result, Teddy Long made a match between the two at WrestleMania, with Rhodes' Intercontinental Championship on the line.

Breakdown

Why Big Show should win: Rarely does a heel back up his boasts, if the Big Show loses yet another WrestleMania match, it looks like he's not a big game player. As it were, Big Show rarely loses clean unless its to a main eventer and Cody Rhodes isn't quite there yet.

Why Cody Rhodes should win: In his promos, Rhodes has done a nice job of putting over that Big Show is a nearly unstoppable force the other 364 (or in 2012, 365) days a year, but at WrestleMania, he's a choke artist. That's practically a built-in excuse for Show to lose here. More than anything, Rhodes is clearly a star on the rise and his Intercontinental Championship reign is one of the longest in the modern era. Last year, he used a WrestleMania victory over Rey Mysterio as a launching pad. Defeating the Big Show and making good on his claims could elevate him straight to the main event.

Bottom line

Rhodes needs to win here. Losing to Big Show after calling him a choke artist at WrestleMania would hurt his character tremendously, while Big Show has nothing to gain by winning the match or the Intercontinental Championship. It won't be a clean win for Rhodes however. I envision a count-out victory or him using a foreign object when the referee is distracted to defeat Big Show. I can also see Show get revenge the next night on Raw, proving Rhodes' theory that he can't win at WrestleMania but can any other night of the year.
