Ravens sign veteran tight end Shiancoe

OWINGS MILLS - The Ravens have signed veteran tight end Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year contract, a day after losing top tight end Dennis Pitta to a potentially season-ending hip injury.
Shiancoe, 33, played in just four games with the New England Patriots last season before being released, but he had 181 catches for 2,101 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Minnesota Vikings from 2008-11.
He had 11 touchdown catches in 2009.
Shiancoe was originally a third-round pick of the New York Giants in 2003. He played collegiately at Morgan State in Baltimore.
