Douglas E. Osterhouse, 51, of Westminster

Douglas Evan Osterhouse, 51, of Westminster, died unexpectedly Friday, Feb. 21, 2014.

Born Sept. 21, 1962, in Spokane, Wash., he was the son of Joan "Jo" Osterhouse, of Santa Fe, N.M., and the late Robert "Bob" Osterhouse. He was the husband of Cheryl Ann Hussmann Osterhouse, whom he married April 2, 1988.

He and his wife lived in Bowie before relocating to Westminster in 2003.

He graduated from Duval High School in 1981 and attended Prince George's Community College, Montgomery College, and Bowie State College before being hired by Prince George's Fire Department in 1987. He retired from Prince George's Fire Department as a battalion chief in 2009.

After retirement, he went on to do safety training for Amtrak, training first responders. He was then hired by Amtrak as a safety coordinator in 2011.

He enjoyed photography, travel, motorcycles and a wide variety of other hobbies. He was an active member of Uniontown Bible Church, where he was involved in the worship ministry, leading small groups, and mentoring.

Surviving, in addition to his mother and wife, are children Matt Osterhouse and wife Gabriele Osterhouse, of St. Augustine, Fla., Morgan Osterhouse, of New Windsor, and Mitch and Marcus Osterhouse, both of Westminster; sister Debbie Guglhoer and family, of Oberau, Germany; and brother Dave Osterhouse and family, of Davidsonville.

A celebration of his life will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Uniontown Bible Church, 4280 Watson Lane, Union Bridge.
