There's a plethora of breast cancer resources and services for women around the county. Here's a look at Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll County Health Department's services:

Carroll Hospital Center

The Women's Place: Offers clinical services, educational resources, complimentary health services and medical screenings. It encompasses a boutique, the Breast Center and a resource library. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

The Red Devils: Carroll Hospital Center partners with this nonprofit to help with house cleaning, chemotherapy and radiation co-pay assistance, transportation to and from treatments and more. For more information, call 410-871-6163 or 410-871-6842.

Genetic counseling: A physician's referral is required for this service that includes a comprehensive history and risk assessment and support from a genetic counselor. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

The Breast Center at Carroll Hospital Center: Located in The Women's Place, the center has a medical team, educational resources and free consultative services. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

Navigation Services/Nurse Navigators: These registered nurses work with cancer patients through diagnosis to survivorship. They coordinate upcoming procedures and treatments, inform patients of available services and share information about programs available in the community. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

Complimentary health services: This encompasses various educational resources and therapies, such as yoga, massages and acupuncture. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

Resource libraries: There's a variety of print and video resources available in the Oncology Unit Resource Center, 410-871-7312, and The Women's Place Resource Center, 410-871-6161.

The Boutique: Women may take home a variety of products, such as wigs, head scarves, knit hats, mastectomy wear and more. Call 410-871-6161 to schedule a free personal consultation.

Nutritional counseling: A dietitian specializing in oncology nutrition can help a patient during chemotherapy or radiation to develop eating plans and during recovery; physician's referral is required. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

Lymphedema treatment program: This is for those with lymphedema, which is a swelling caused by a disrupted lymphatic system; a physician's referral is required, and treatments are from a certified massage and lymphedema therapist. For more information, call 410-871-6161.

Support groups

Breast cancer support group: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on second Tuesday of each month in The Women's Place; open to women and men

Cancer support group: 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of each month in The Women's Place; open to women and men

Caregiver support group: 4 to 5:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the Carroll County Bureau of Aging

Carroll County Health Department

Susan G. Komen grant: A free surgical consult for women younger than 40 years old who have an abnormal breast lump; must be uninsured, underinsured or low-income to qualify. Call 410-876-4423 for more information.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Program: Offers free mammograms, breast exams and pap tests to 40- to 64-year-old women who are uninsured, underinsured or low income. Call 410-876-4423 to see if you qualify.

Diagnostic and Treatment program: If there are abnormal findings, women who are uninsured, underinsured or low-income can enroll in this program. It will cover the cost of a surgical consult and treatment if needed. Call 410-876-4423 for more information.
