Baseball: Four County 10-12 All-Stars ousted from District 2 tourney

Four County faced elimination Sunday when the 10-12 All-Stars played Montgomery County Lower in the Maryland District 2 Little League tournament at North Chevy Chase Field No. 2.

Four County grabbed an early lead but couldn’t make it stand, however, and Montgomery County Lowe prevailed 7-4 to advance in the tournament.

The All-Stars got a two-run hit from Justin Nicholls in the first inning, and hits from Augie Jansen and Jacob Leibowitz, and led 2-0. Four County stretched the lead to 4-0 in the third inning, behind a two-run double from Leibowitz.

Walker Fowlble made a few sparkling plays in center field.

Montgomery County broke through in the third, though, and chased starting pitcher Stephen Curry. The home team scored two more runs in the fourth and led 6-4, then added another insurance run in the fifth.

Four County lost in its District 2 opener on Saturday 10-9 against East Frederick, but playing in a double-elimination format the All-Stars got another chance to advance.

Four County’s 8-10 All-Stars are in the championship bracket of their District 2 tournament. Four County faces Montgomery County Lower on Tuesday at 6 p.m at North Chevy Chase Field.

The 9-11 All-Stars are also in the championship bracket in their District 2 tournament. And that team takes on Brunswick on Tuesday night at 6 at Russell Windsor Field.
