Cape Horn Road bridge reopened after upgrades completed, county announces

Carroll County government announced Wednesday that the Cape Horn Road bridge has been reopened after replacement work was completed.

In 2018, Finksburg-based Kibler Construction Co. won a $604,971.50 contract to remove the existing steel beam bridge structure on Cape Horn Road at Harvey Gummel Road and replace it with a cast-in-place single cell concrete box culvert.

The work was designed to “reduce maintenance costs and provide a structurally sufficient bridge for many years,” according to a public works document.

“Carroll County appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation with any travel delays or difficulties that this roadway closure and construction project may result in,” a Wednesday bulletin from the county said.

For more information, the bulletin suggested residents contact the Bureau of Engineering at 410-386-2157.
