Our flag, our anthem, our nation are different after Sept. 11, 2001

Why does this flag look different than on Sept. 10, 2001?

Why does the anthem sound more special each time we hear it sung?

I see this flag in a different light as I see it waving in the sky,

My heart is filled with such love and pride, sometimes it makes me cry.

I think it's like a loved one that was almost taken away.

And that I would love them so much more, if given one more day.

This flag represents many, a country full of much diversity,

Yet somehow through a tragic day, we have become one family.

I smile each time I see this flag as it waves from someone's porch.

And Lady Liberty, I've never been more proud of you, holding up your torch.

The one's who fought and died to keep this country free,

This flag should always remind us that they did this for you and me.

When I say the Pledge of Allegiance and over my heart I place my hand.

I feel so very proud to know I am part of this great land.

The colors may look the same, they are still red, white and blue.

But I've never felt such pride like today when I look at you.

Now the Pledge of Allegiance has more meaning, and the anthem when it's sung.

Because they come more deeply from my heart than on Sept. 10, 2001.
