Two people injured in Westminster house fire

The State Fire Marshal's Office says two people received non-life-threatening injuries in a fire that occurred in Westminster just before midnight Sunday.

The fire was in the 500 block of Bear Branch Road in the southern portion of Westminster, near Winfield, in a single-story house. The one-alarm blaze was reported at 11:58 p.m. Sunday, and took about 30 minutes to control. Thirty-five firefighters were called to the scene. Damage was estimated at about $30,000 to the structure, and about $20,000 for contents.

The fire marshal said two people received injuries and were taken to Carroll Hospital Center for evaluation. There was no word on their condition, but the injuries were described as non-life-threatening. The fire was believed to be the result of discarded smoking materials in a bedroom, according to the fire marshal.
