Cockeysville-based lacrosse retailer Lax World has acquired a Denver specialty retailer, creating what the company says is one of the nation's largest chains focused on the sport.
Lax World's deal with Breakaway Sports will create a 14-store retailer with a bigger online and warehousing presence, the company said. The retailer did not disclose terms of the deal.
The merger will extend the retailer's market reach and allow it to eventually expand into additional markets. Lax World has five stores in Maryland and five stores spread through Georgia, Virginia and Colorado. Breakaway also has stores in Georgia and Colorado as well as in Washington and New York.
"In addition to expanding our store base and team sales capabilities, we are adding a deep and talented group of professionals who are industry leaders in the lacrosse community," said Frank Barbarino of Lax World, which was founded in 1988.
