Suspect named in killing of Fells Point waitress

Police named a suspect in the death of Fells Point waitress Claudia Parodi this week and are searching for the man in Texas.

Baltimore Police Department spokesman Det. Ruganzu Howard confirmed Saturday that police suspect Juan Morales, 29, in the killing of Parodi, 40, who was found stabbed to death Monday at her Fells Point apartment in the 700 block of S. Bond St.

Baltimore investigators told television stations in San Antonio, Texas, they believe the killing took place two days earlier, and said Morales was last seen in the early morning hours of Oct. 3 in the 1600 block of Aliceanna St.

Parodi was a longtime and popular waitress at the upscale Italian restaurant Pazo, located a few blocks from her home. A co-worker called police after not hearing from Parodi for a few days.

Howard would not say why they connected Morales, who also goes by Jose Lopez, to Parodi's death, nor why authorities believe he may have fled to San Antonio. He would not say whether Morales and Parodi knew each other, citing the ongoing investigation.
