Amtrak train stalled north of Baltimore Thursday night

A southbound Amtrak Acela train was stuck for three hours outside of Baltimore's Penn Station on Thursday evening due to a mechanical problem, Amtrak officials said on Friday.

Amtrak spokesman Craig Schulz said that around 7:21 p.m. on Thursday, Train 2167 traveling from Boston to Washington was disabled in the Union Tunnel about three quarters of a mile north of Baltimore.

Passengers were transferred to Amtrak Train 55 (Vermonter) and Train 2167 was terminated for the evening, Schulz said.

Schulz said that although the train did not lose power, officials shut off its power briefly to couple it to a rescue engine.
