Car, fire-and-rescue vehicle collide in Ellicott City

A Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue vehicle collided with a Honda Civic in Ellicott City Saturday night after the car's driver failed to yield the right of way, police said today.

The 17-year-old driver of the Honda was taken to Howard County General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, county police said.

Two fire-and-rescue employees in a marked Chevrolet Suburban were responding to an emergency call around 10:15 p.m. with lights and siren on when the crash occurred, according to police. They were trying to make a right turn onto Pebble Beach Drive from westbound Route 40 when the Civic — which was in the right turn lane — hit the right front corner of the emergency vehicle, police said.
