North Carolina teen missing in Baltimore

Baltimore police on Friday were seeking a 16-year-old girl from North Carolina who was reported missing this week during a family stay in Northwest Baltimore.

The family of Phylicia Barnes, who lives in Monroe, N.C., contacted city police on Tuesday afternoon asking for help in their search for the girl.

Authorities believe Barnes left a house where she was staying, in the 6500 block of Eberle Drive, in the middle of the night, possibly to get some food. Barnes is an A student who does not have a history of running away or of criminal behavior, according to Anthony Guglielmi, a Baltimore police spokesman.

Barnes is believed to have left the house with her cell phone, but she left other personal items behind, Guglielmi said.

"She hasn't had any contact with family since then," Guglielmi said. "No one's been able to reach her."

Anyone with information about Barnes' whereabouts should call 911, Guglielmi said.
