Fatal crash on I-70: 1 dead, two injured

A 24-year-old woman was killed and two passengers were injured when the truck she was driving Friday afternoon on Interstate 70 in Howard County veered off the highway and overturned, authorities said.

The crash happened at about 3:30 p.m. on westbound I-70 near Bethany Lane in Ellicott City, authorities said. The woman, who died at the scene, was from Howard County, according to the Maryland State Police, who were investigating the single-vehicle incident.

The name of the fatal victim was not released pending notification of next of kin, authorities said.

Two male passengers were transported by state police Medevac helicopter to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, said Sgt. Benjamin Neil of the state police. Initial reports from the scene listed one man's injuries as critical, while another man's injuries appeared less severe, according to Neil.

State police investigators were hoping to interview the men when they recovered as part of their accident investigation, Neil said.
