Guard McMillan leading undefeated No. 6 John Carroll

Ask Malcolm McMillan what his favorite basketball memory is, and he comes up empty trying to find that one special moment. He loves them all. But with the surging Patriots ranked No. 6 in the area poll with a 14-0 record, he just might be able to find one in the near future with the team in strong contention for championships in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference as well as the Baltimore Catholic League. As the Patriots point guard, the 6-foot McMillan is doing a lot of everything with the ability to score, set up teammates and play hassling defense. He's averaging 16 points, 5.3 assists and 2.7 steals in his fourth season as a starter, showing strong leadership as a captain with hard work that starts in practice. McMillan, who has a B average in the classroom, has signed to play at Central Connecticut with plans to major in sports management.

QUESTION: What's going to be the key for the team having continued success this season?

ANSWER: Right now, the season is going great for us. But we know we have to continue to work hard because as we're getting better every day, everybody else is getting better also.  We have to come out and work hard every day.

Q: What do you enjoy most about playing point guard?

A: The point guard is the leader on the floor, like the coach on the floor. I like that the ball is in my hands and I get to make the tough decisions.

Q: Do you have a best moment on the court?

A: Not really. I just like being out there with my teammates and having fun.

Q: What do you think about John Carroll now being a member of the Baltimore Catholic League?

A: It's very big. Coach [ Tony Martin] was in the BCL when he was at Spalding and always tells us how fun it is. It's a great opportunity.

Q: What's it like being a high school senior?

A: For some people, it can be kind of worrisome because it's their last year and they have to figure out what they're doing after high school.  But I'm pretty calm because I already know where I'm going, so I'm taking it day by day and having fun with it.

Q: Is there an exact minute when you knew Central Connecticut was the school for you?

A: I'd say it was when I was just chilling with the team after a practice.  I just felt right at home and wanted to stay. I knew it was the place for me.

Q: What has been the best part about 2010?

A: The winning streak we're enjoying right now. The confidence level gets higher and higher every game we win. We just know we can do it.

Q: What do you enjoy most about the holiday season?

A: I enjoy spending time with my family.
