Officers who went to the scene found O'Conner lying in the road with what appeared to be life-threatening injuries. Wearing dark clothing, he had been struck by a northbound vehicle that had remained at the scene. O'Conner was not in a designated crosswalk, according to a report of the incident by Cpl. W.R. Morningstar Jr.

Medics from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department took O'Conner to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

The investigation indicated that pedestrian error was the primary cause of the accident.

O'Conner was struck by a 2010 Honda Accord driven by Scott T. Berenbach, 29, of Parkville. Neither he nor his passenger, Michelle D. Biasucci, 31, of Joppa, was injured.
