A man was in critical condition after he was badly beaten Monday in West Baltimore, city police said, though he was upgraded to serious but stable condition Tuesday.

Officers received a call at 9:10 p.m. for a man being assaulted and lying in the street in the 900 block of Bennett Place, according to police, in the Harlem Park community.

A medical crew was already treating the man, who appeared to about 40 years old, when officers arrived.

He was admitted to a local hospital with severe head and face trauma, police said.
