City detectives have determined that a 48-year-old man who died more than a month ago of unexplained head injuries in the Greenspring neighborhood, was the victim of a homicide.
Officers were called to the 2600 block of Quantico Ave. at about 12:30 a.m. July 23 and found Robert Lockett suffering from head injuries, said city police spokesman Donny Moses. Lockett, of the 4200 block of Pimlico Ave., was "combative and incoherent," police said, and was taken to Sinai Hospital, where doctors said his injuries appeared to be consistent with a fall.
On Aug. 4, Lockett died as a result of his injuries, police said. Detectives continued to investigate, and found a witness who said he saw a tall man — Lockett is listed at 6-foot-5 — being followed that night by a group of men, police said.
The witness told police he saw someone run up to Lockett, but what happened next was obscured by a tree, police said. The witness said he saw Lockett fall, and when he approached Lockett he saw that he was bleeding.
A motive is unknown. Police said Lockett's sister told officers that he had left his home to go to a store, leaving his cell phone behind and a bedroom light on. Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
