As homeowners on a quiet street in West Baltimore stood on their porches, the cool breeze and swishing of trees belied the commotion that took place moments earlier as a 33-year-old man was fatally shot.
Police said the unidentified man, who was from Glen Burnie, was shot at about 1 p.m. in the 2600 block of Baker St., then ran into the Ashburton Soul Shack carryout, where he collapsed. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, said spokesman Donny Moses.
One resident, who did not want to be identified, said he heard the shots and saw two men flee from a green vehicle. He said they had been inside the car with the victim. "Usually it's someone you know," one woman said. "It was a setup," another asserted.
They said the street, in the Coppin Heights neighborhood, is typically serene, and mostly occupied by older homeowners. Across the street, Angel Taylor, 71, said a neighbor was robbed two years ago. She said she has been more cautious with keeping her doors locked.
"People don't have no jobs, and they're doing anything to get whatever they want," Taylor said.
Police did not know a motive for the attack. Anyone with information was asked to call the homicide unit at 410-396-2100.
