A 14-year-old girl riding on the back of a motorcycle was killed Thursday when her father lost control on a curve in Harford County and crashed into a van, a Maryland State Police spokesman said.
Lauryn Marie Little and her father, Brian Ross Little, 42, were thrown from his Harley-Davidson after it rammed into the rear of a van at an intersection in Darlington shortly before 5 p.m., according to the police report of the accident.
The girl was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, where she was pronounced dead. Her father was being treated at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. The family lives in Whiteford, a few miles from the scene of the crash.
State troopers from the Bel Air barrack who were summoned to the accident reported that the motorcycle had been southbound on Route 136 — also known as Priestford Road — and that Little, negotiating a curve, "failed to notice" a stationary 2005 Dodge van in front of him. The van was waiting behind another vehicle that was turning onto Trappe Church Road, the police report said.
The driver of the van, Walter T. Schweers, 61, of Havre de Grace, was uninjured.
State police said Friday that the accident remains under investigation.
